Fluoride Appliance Therapy

Some patients are at high risk for new decay.  Many medications have a side-effect of “dry mouth.”  Also, radiation to the head and neck area can also have a devastating effect on the salivary glands, leaving patients with little to no saliva.  As we get older and our gums recede, the roots of our teeth become exposed.  Lack of saliva and exposed root surfaces can create the perfect environment for new decay (since roots are more porous than enamel).

Custom fluoride appliances are our best method of protection for patients at high risk for decay.  These appliances, made for both the upper and lower arches, apply a pressurized daily application of concentrated fluoride gel to protect weak areas of our teeth.  This therapy is a great “insurance policy” to help prevent decay on root surfaces and under crowns and bridges, thus greatly extending the life of your restorations.
